A Fire Burning In Your Eyes

After watching Daenerys Stormborn burn the Khals alive in last night’s Game of Thrones episode (Book of the Stranger), my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds were filled with praise for Khaleesi. Women wrote about her strength while most of the guys’ posts could be summed up with “wife goals.” I saw it a few times and thought I’d offer this piece of advice.

If you want a woman as strong as Khaleesi, be the best man you can possibly be.

I’m not talking about perfection. Please don’t get “the best” and “perfect” confused. As humans, it’s impossible for us to reach perfection. It just won’t happen – deal with it. Future Khaleesi, you’d do well to remember that also.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word best as “that which is the most excellent, outstanding, or desirable.” Notice how perfect isn’t there.

The key word in that definition is desirable. It looks and is different for each woman. Striving for your best will undoubtedly be the most attractive character trait any man can possess.

Women see Dany and want to be her. They see the strength of this character and wish it for themselves. Unfortunately, some women’s lives mimic that of her’s in the sense that they’re widows or worse, have been let down by the men in their lives and left on their own. They have suffered silently while their man thinks he has his bases covered which can be dangerous and lead to laziness in all aspects of life.

I’m not making an argument that women need men, or vice versa. I’m only pointing out that if you want to spend your life with a woman of strength, character, and substance, make sure that you’re building those attributes within yourself. Never give up fighting for her heart and always be on guard to protect her. Every guy wants to be the dashing and cunning Daario Naharis, or the great Khal Drogo, but most days call for us to be the ever diligent Ser Jorah.
